The Network of East-West Women signed the statement on the proposed Global Summit of the Group of 20, that will take place in Washington on November 15, to reform the international financial system and build an economic system that works for people and the planet.
In light of the French EU Presidency, this year’s General Assembly of the European Women’s Lobby was held in Lyon (France) from 24 to 26 October. The meeting gathered more than 150 delegates, representing EWL national co-ordinations and European-wide member organisations, from all over Europe. The EWL General Assembly took place in the Lyon City Hall and was generously hosted by the Lyon City Council with the organisational support of the French Coordination of the EWL (CLEF).
Final conference on gender budgeting as a management instrument for gender equality at universities (Gdansk, Munich, Vienna) took place in Brussels, in Representation of the Free State of Bavaria to the European Union, at September 17, 2008.
One question comes out of the series of NGOs reports developed by the Network of East-West Women: - how the EU can expect obeying the women’s rights from developing countries when itself EU is not standing to its own standards and values?

Since August 8, 2008 the whole world has been witnessing Russia's open military invasion into the independent and sovereign Republic of Georgia. Thousands of soldiers and tanks of the Russian Federation have breached the internationally recognized borders of Georgia and have been fiercely attacking Georgian troops.
The conference offers the opportunity to present central findings of the SSA to a broad audience. Together with stakeholders and experts at a national and European level we want to discuss strategies and perspectives for implementing gender budgeting with a focus on the area of higher education and research.

This kind of actions enable women's issues to be placed among priorities in the EU Development Agenda in the future.
